On Wednesday, 12/21/16, at approximately 07:00 P.M., deputies from the Burney Station arrived at the Rocky Ledge Shell Station in Johnson Park for a reported structure fire. Once on scene emergency personnel located a subject with severe burns. The victim was provided emergency medical treatment and then transported by air ambulance. The victim subsequently succumbed to his injuries. The victim in this incident has been identified as David Wicks and next of kin has been notified. Wicks was an employee at the store. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Deputies from the Burney Station have actively investigated the incident through the night. Surveillance video has been reviewed of the incident and the video shows a horrific chain of events. In the video an unknown suspect is seen entering the Rocky Ledge Shell convenience store. The unknown subject starts to spray an unknown type flammable liquid and it is believed Wicks was doused with the fluid at this time. As the suspect starts to back out, the victim David Wicks emerges from behind a counter area. The suspect continues to spray fluid on the floor. The suspect then ignites the fluid causing a fire. The fire engulfs Wicks and the surrounding area. There is no motive at this time as to why the suspect targeted Wicks. The video shows the suspect leaving on a black colored bicycle, westbound from the store. The suspect has not been identified and the suspect’s description is limited due to the suspect concealing his/her identity. The Sheriff’s Office has provided two photos for the public to review. The first photograph shows the suspect inside the store and the second photo is of the bicycle located in the area after the incident took place. Anyone who saw the suspect before or after, or has seen someone in the area recently riding a bicycle similar to the one in the photograph, is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 530-245-6135 or email mcu@co.shasta.ca.us. The Major Crimes Unit will be in the Burney area today continuing with the investigation Attachments:

Shasta County sheriff’s deputies found a yellow rain suit they believe belongs to whoever carried out the brutal murder of 54-year-old David Wicks, who was burned alive at the Rocky Ledge Shell station near Burney on Wednesday evening.
Lt. Troy Clegg said they recovered the rain suit around 4 p.m. Thursday, stashed in a trash can on Pine Street and Robin Way, and canvassed the area to search for leads. The bicycle, a black beach cruiser, used by the killer was found on Third Street and Pine Avenue.
They're also following up with two people who may have information about the murder.
“We’re speaking to two witnesses that might know some valuable information about the case,” Clegg said.
Clegg said one of the individuals they’re speaking to may have in the past used the black beach cruiser. The second person was someone who witnesses said may have had a conflict with Wicks in the past, Clegg said.
Friends have set up a GoFundMe account for the family, and have raised $11,000 of their $60,000 goal. Secret Witness of Shasta County is also offering $10,000 for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Wicks' killer. The owners of the Shell station said they would add $5,000 to that reward.
Jaspal Singh and Devinder Sahota, who are owners of the store, said the gas station would remain closed for the next few days as the family and community continue to heal.
Sahota described the scene inside the store. "It's not good," he said. "There's burn marks everywhere."
Wicks was behind the counter when he was doused with liquid and set ablaze.
According to details from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, around 7 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to the gas station in Johnson Park, about three miles east of Burney, about a reported structure fire. Once on scene, Clegg said they found Wicks' body, covered in burns at the front of the store. He was unable to speak, but was able to nod yes and no. Deputies asked him whether what happened to him was intentional, and he nodded yes, Clegg said. Deputies were unable to get anymore information from Wicks, and he died later that night due to his injuries.
When deputies reviewed surveillance footage of the scene, they found that a man wearing a yellow suit similar to rain gear with his face covered in a black hoodie walked into the store, sprayed Wicks with a flammable liquid, lit the fluid on fire, and rode away on a bicycle.
Clegg said they explored 35 leads Thursday night, and 100 more leads on Friday. They're also monitoring social media accounts, and are continuing to review the surveillance footage again, to see if there are any clues they may have missed.
Clegg said Wicks' wife, Sonja, who was also a manager at the store, had been interviewed extensively and was asked whether there was anybody they had kicked out of the store, terminated from employment, or had a general disagreement with David Wicks.
Another employee was in the store at the time of the incident with Wicks. But because she was working in the back, she didn't see who doused Wicks with the flammable liquid. She and another person nearby were the ones who called law enforcement the night of the murder.
Anyone with information on Wicks' killing is asked to call the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit at 245-6135 or email mcu@co.shasta.ca.us. Anonymous tips can also be left with Secret Witness at 243-2319 or scsecretwitness.com.

Any info on the girl employee in the back room of the gas station? Here it says Third street. www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2016/12/22/gas-station-clerk-set-fire-killed/95777770/In studying the surveillance video, investigators say that the attacker was a man who stood about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall. They have little else to go on, but they did find a beach cruiser bicycle four blocks away from the gas station, on Third Street and Pine Avenue, that matched the description of the bike the killer rode away.

It sounds like the other employee was in the back of the store and was not aware of what was going on. The Sheriff said at the press conference that the incident took 10-15 seconds from the time the man entered the store until he walked back out. It is easy to understand how the other employee was not aware.
I thought you would find Third Street an interesting choice of location to leave the bike. How about Pine Street and Robin Way to leave the yellow rain suit?

The woman in the back might not have been aware of yellow suit man BUT he might have been aware of her, lucky timing might have kept her safe. Who's to know that she didn't just take a walk out back a minute of two beforehand? Her name may be witheld but I think it's important. Any updates on the Papini message?

I couldn't tell what brand of bike it is. The picture is grainy.
I thought that you might think she was the target rather than him but why would he proceed if she was not at the register? If I see her name, I'll post it.
On Papini, crickets. All I hear is crickets.

I guess when you're inside it's just as easy to burn the first person you see, it's not as if those roads would present themselves at another scene and going in twice allows for a mistake and two lots of footage. I need time to consider something about this and will post more then.
