I see rattlesnakes fairly often when I'm out walking but they usually are not that large. It kind of make me sad when they are killed but I understand if you have animals or kids. I'd rather have a few snakes than a bunch of rodents. They have a boy, but unless the snake was good at x-box, the two would have never met. The kid dont go out much. But it was the second time in a week that we had seen that snake. And it was within a hundred feet of the house each time.

Only recently I was walking the ridge with the neighbor, when on the return I nearly stepped on a foot long rattler (my third near miss in 3 months). While I kept the snake at bay, he left for his house to get a shovel, but then yelled as he leapt past another thick 2 foot rattler on the path to his door. No strikes, but there was lots of introspection going on. Me, well, he planted the first one, leading to divine retribution for the second. We joined forces to exterminate both (as he has two cats), but I prefer rattlers to the voles that destroy everything when they surge into the hundreds or even thousands every 2 or 3 years.

Update. The coyote and the bobcats are still eluding me. I have been getting numerous pics of all the various wildlife in the area. been doing some brush-hogging to get a clearer picture. And I bought a laser Christmas light projector and have it set up to go off in the middle of the night until morning. I am not sure if the coyotes are going to be afraid of it, or if all I am doing is making the goats nervous wrecks. But the pasture looks beautiful. Red and green lights swirling around. Even the goats are getting lit up.

My mate has a male donkey in with her two female goats for the very same reason, they settle more and it keeps foxes out. I'd forgoten all about that.

I had to take two kittens to the vet today. And one thing about living out here is that the Vet is the is this guy who has lived forever here, and he has family working with him. I have been going to him for years now and it is nice to be able to go in and talk with them about all kinds of things. But I mentioned the problems I was having and he said that yes, the coyotes are bad this year. But it sounds like to him that I have some Jaguarundi hunting at my property. Two of the goats were taken out of the pasture completely. No sight of them. The other two were killed in the pasture, and one was eaten right there. Thanks for the idea about the donkeys and llamas. But llamas bug the crap out of me. Their expression never changes. They just look at me with this expression of disdain on their face. The neighbors llama would come over to my place and just stare at me. I dont know why. It would just stand there by my truck and stare. It wouldnt move. Just move its jaw around. Its not that I am scared of them, I just dont what they are thinking. I have thought about getting a jenny. I like them much better. Another neighbor has some horses they said they would give me, so I have that option too. I have a bull also. He is actually a butthead, always chasing the goats around the pasture. He even tries to charge me if I am not paying attention. Evidently coyotes and big cats dont bother him. The vet said I should sell him. I have to do something.

Thanks for the giggle with the llama impression.

Yeah, I can see the Llama now, I'll never look at one the same again. My mate said the Donkey was a little aggressive but I guess that's what you need, they also had to have an excavator to stack up some huge rocks in the middle of the enclosure for the goats to escape the Donkey when he got a little frisky. I guess you'd have to remember to enter his field and walk backwards just to avoid any embarrassing moments should he have not had much luck with the goats that day. Maybe a Llama that stares is less of the evils.

Adding some more pics of the troubles. The coyote looks very determined. I have been moving the camera around the property, and I am getting pics of coyotes every where. Nice shot of a deer. And then one of my oblivious goats. That is where one of the cameras is set up right now. I have been doing some brush mowing to try and give the critters a little bit more of headstart against the coyotes. I had pics of armadillos, skunks, raccoons, pheasant, small birds, rabbits, what might be a fox, and then some unknown looking dog. I got a nice pic of a blue jay and the fox looking animal hanging out together. But still nothing of the mysterious Jaguarundi.

That fence looks electric, if it is, how are they getting past it?

I spent a good deal of money buying all those cattle panels. They arent electric though. They are 4x6 squares which I thought would protect the goats from coyotes. And yet the coyotes seem to pass right through them. I know the deer can jump right over them, and the rabbits go right through them. but I like them. One of the pens had 4x4 and 2x4 holes and were five foot tall at the minimum, and the coyotes or jaguarundi made it through them, and somehow carried two goats out of the pen. So far, since I have been putting up the motion controlled security lights, I havent lost any more pets. But here is a pic of something out hunting that I cant identify. Its rounded legs dont seem like a coyote. It could be a wild dog, or some type of cat. Attachments:

I don't know what I'm looking at because we don't have those animals living wild here BUT if I had to guess I'd say it looks like it's got a Pig-like head.

I don't know what I'm looking at because we don't have those animals living wild here BUT if I had to guess I'd say it looks like it's got a Pig-like head. View Attachmenti didnt see it like that. Usually the animals all react to the trail cam when it goes off at night. There is a red light that goes off when the pic is taken and they usually all look right at it. Here is how my eye saw the critter. In the next few pics, the image is gone from the screen, so it definitely is an animal. But you interpretation might be a deer also. There was a rabbit in the lower left of the pic also. Attachments:

I don't know, maybe it is the way you have it, I can't see the rabbit just a funny little face that could be a Gremlin
